Nominations for the Pat Felix Volunteer of the Year Award are made by the President and the Board of Directors of the Tree Care Industry Association. The recipient(s) are honored at the Winter Management Conference in February.

Since the retirement of Pat Felix in March 2001, TCIA has helped carry on her legacy of hard work and dedication with the "Pat Felix Volunteer of the Year Award." The award is presented to a TCIA member volunteer who has gone above and beyond the call of duty as a volunteer, committing a great deal of time and effort toward the success of TCIA and what it offers members. Award recipients are selected annually by the Chair of the Board and the President/CEO.

All TCIA volunteers are invaluable. Without the effort of countless volunteers, TCIA would not be the thriving association it is today!

2008 Pat Felix Volunteer of the Year Award goes to Lyle Feilmeier

Each year, the Chair and President are given the privilege of selecting someone for special recognition. The Pat Felix Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to a TCIA member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty; committing a great deal of time and effort to the success of TCIA.

This year, we decided that it was work on Outcome 2 - our determination to change the safety culture of this industry - that caught our eye again.

Pat Felix Volunteer of the Year AwardIn 2005, TCIA put together a group of top notch safety professionals to partner with us on the development of the industry’s first credentialing program. When asked to be part of the team that took this task on with no idea what this program was going to look like, how long it was going to take to develop, or whether it would be well-received by the industry; this person stepped up to the plate and said, "Yes!"

After all the hard work of putting a viable program together, we then had to create a Council that would oversee the CTSP program. This group would be responsible for the ongoing credibility of the program, its evolution, and any problems that might arise along the way. Again, this individual said, "Yes!" As the end of his term on the Council has arrived, we have not heard one peep that there wasn't a single meeting held anywhere near this person's place of business.

This year, we developed a safety presentation that highlighted the devastating reality of accidents and fatalities and why people should become CTSPs. Once again, this individual stepped up to the plate and partnered with Cynthia; contributing his experience working with his company. He also volunteered to present in the future. This person recently became the first CTSP in Oregon.

This member has led by example and has been a real joy for the volunteer and staff team to work with...so today, we are delighted to present the Pat Felix Volunteer of the Year to Lyle Feilmeier.
